Well, I think I just made up a new name for the category of coffee collectibles. But there's tobacciana and breweriana, so why not caffeiniana?
Coffee has been on my mind and in my hand a lot lately as the weather is cold and damp and my work days are long and hard. Trying to get my new storefront open (soon!!! I hope)and holiday selling are fueling my need for caffeine.
I do love vintage advertising in all it's glorious forms. Here are some great images from my own stock as well as from other sources. Cans, jars and coffee bags- there all here.
It was common in the 1940s, during WWII, for coffee to be packaged in jars rather than cans. Aluminum was much in demand by the military. There are some great collectible glass coffee jars from this period with interesting shapes and patterns.
Some great cans too!
By the way, my new favorite local coffee place is De Luxe on 7th Avenue and 13th Street in South Slope- excellent coffee and a very cool logo
